ANNEX 7. RESEARCH AREA The main research interest concerns HUMAN NEUROPSYCHOLOGY, the scientific discipline that investigates the cognitive and emotional-motivational disorders associated with cerebral damage or dysfunction, with a two-fold aim: A. EURISTIC (in the wider context of HUMAN COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE), investigating the functional (psychological) and neural organization of cognitive processes, through experimental studies performed: i. in patients showing cognitive deficits brought about by brain damage (COGNITIVE NEUROPSYCHOLOGY); ii. in neurologically unimpaired individuals, in different age populations. B. CLINICAL, to detect the presence of neuropsychological impairments and set up rehabilitation programs, developing appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms.
MAIN RESEARCH TOPICS include: - SPATIAL COGNITION, investigated mainly through the experimental neuropsychological model of UNILATERAL SPATIAL NEGLECT; - temporary WORKING MEMORY processes, with a particular focus on PHONOLOGICAL SHORT-TERM MEMORY. GV's publications include original articles in international journals, chapters in edited books, and edited books. Over 100 publications (of these over 20 published since 2003) are indexed in PubMed (www.pubmed.gov). According to a bibliometric assessment, GV was the more quoted Italian author in the period 1981-1998 in psychiatric and psychological journals listed in SCI and/or SSCI (Bignami G, et al., Epidemiol Psichiatr Soc 9, 11, 2000). H index (Harzing's Publish or Perish): 47 (January 2009).
